With three image films as well as the media accompaniment of a ceremony in the plenary hall of the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia, the anniversary of the Research Institute Technology and Disability was duly respected.
FTB (Forschungsinstitut Technologie und Behinderung i.e. Research Institute Technology and Disability)
was founded in 1991.
The activities of its interdisciplinary team include development, evaluation and application of modern technologies to assist elderly people and people with disabilities.
The expertise in applied research is the result of the strong link between FTB and the rehabilitation centre ESV (Evangelische Stiftung Volmarstein i.e. Protestant Foundation Volmarstein) and the cooperation of people with disabilities and their support groups. Methodical and academic impulses are generated by the close affiliation as an institute of the universities of Dortmund and Hagen.
Within the three areas of expertise
Research and Development, Information and Advice as well as Test and Evaluation
FTB focuses on assistive technology, barrier-free access and universal design.
In the areas of technology and disability, FTB acts as a key contact for the government (local, federal and European), for the support groups of people with disabilities, and for industry. It has a track record of international collaborations and contacts.
This year the institute is celebrating its 25th anniversary.
Reason enough to sketch the activities in the 3 main areas of activity in the form of 3 short image films
as well as to capture the anniversary ceremony in the plenary hall of the North Rhine-Westphalian state government in Düsseldorf.
The image films
Good preparation is everything.
For the three main topics of information technology, building & living as well as mobility
scenes were discussed together with the colleagues of the FTB – scenes, which would adequately indicate the work of the institute.
Corresponding short descriptions for the subsequent editorial processing have been added.
Within the timeframe of two on-site appointments and according to the planning,
numerous static as well as moving impressions of the activities of the FTB were recorded.
These formed the basis for the image films, which were to be produced in each case for 2 minutes.
A way had to be found, which transported the content in a fresh and modern way and at the same time
met the character of the institute as part of the rehabilitation center Evangelische Stiftung Volmarstein.

The anniversary event
For September 12, Carina Gödeke, President of the State Parliament, and Prof. Dr. Christian Bühler, Head of the FTB,
had invited to the anniversary event in the plenary hall.
That this is already a special appreciation of the institute and its work is almost self-evident.
In addition to numerous speeches and greetings – e.g. by Rainer Schmeltzer, Minister of Labor, Integration and Social Affairs of the
country North Rhine-Westphalia – a conference took place in the afternoon under the motto "Technology for Inclusion and Participation".
Here our mayor Frank Hasenberg moderated a discussion group.
300 GB of video and audio material as well as more than 200 photo shoots were to be viewed, edited and processed accordingly.
The speeches in the morning of the ceremony were processed in a long and a short version of 1:54:32 resp. 31:44.
The symposium was fully documented with a length of 2:01:16.
